Karampodi

Karampodi is a powder used in many South India Foods. South Indian Food boasts of a variety of spiced powders like gun powder aka karam podi, sesame seeds powder, dry coconut powder and curry leaves powder. It is similar to Karam podi yet different in terms of looks, texture and flavor. Each home has its own version of podis and over the years we have been trying out various permutations and combinations trying to achieve that ‘perfect podi’.

Ingredients:

2 TBSP CHANA DAL
1 1/2 TBSP CORIANDER
1/2 TSP METHI
1 1/2 TBSP URAD DAL
1/2 JEERA
4 GARLIC (OPTIONAL)
4 -5 CURRY LEAVES
3-4 PIECE TAMARIND
2- 3 TBSP KAHMIRI LAL MIRCH
1 TBSP SALT

Take a pan, add chana dal, coriander, urad dal, methi.


Cook it on low flame for 2- 3 mins.
Now add tamarind, curry leaves, garlic(optional).


Cook for 5 mins on low flame.


Now let it cool, add kashmiri lal mirchi and salt.


Churn it fine powder.


Karampodi is ready.


Serve it with hot idlis , vadas, dosa etc.
