Lachha Paratha

Lachha paratha is a popular North Indian flat-bread. In North India, Lachha paratha is also famously known as Punjabi bread. The word ‘Laccha’ literally means layers in Hindi. Thus, the name laccha paratha is the exact translation of the phrase ‘layered flat-bread’. Lachha Paratha can be served with Panner Butter Masala , Malai Kofta and many other curries. INGREDIENTS:

1 CUP ALL PURPOSE FLOUR (MAIDA)
1 TBSP SEMOLINA ( SUJI)
TO TASTE  SALT
2 TBSP OIL
1 1/3 CUP WATER

 

METHOD:

 

Take a bowl add maida, suji, salt, 1 tbsp oil. Mix everything properly.

Add water to the mixture and make  dough out of the mixture. The dough should be like the dough we make for chappati, it should not be too hard neither to soft. Dough will be little sticky consistency.

Take the dough on the kitchen top and add 1 tbsp oil and knead it for 5 more mins. Apply a layer of oil on top of the dough and let it rest for 10-15 mins.

After 15 mins, Divide the dough in ball size. Now sprinkle maida on the kitchen top.

Roll the maida into a thin sheet.

Apply a layer of ghee on top of the sheet. Cut it into thin strips and apply more ghee so that the strips do not stick to each other.

Gather all the strips using a knife.

Make a knot and then a ball dough out of it.

Flatten the dough using palm (hands).

Take a heated tawa, put the flattened paratha on it and let it cook from one side.

Once it is cooked from one side flip it and cook from another.

When its dry cooked from both the sides, apply ghee on one side and cook properly and repeat the same on the other side.


Your Laccha Paratha is ready to be served. Sprinkle some hot ghee and crushed dried pudhina on top and Serve hot.

Serve it with Panner Butter Masala or Malai Kofta.

 

EXTRA INFO:

*  Do not knead the dough too hard or too soft, it should be just like the dough we make for chappati.

*  Cut the strips thin and apply generous amount of ghee on top so the strips do not stick to each other.

* Flatten the dough using your palm and not rolling pin.
