Tawa Idli

Tawa Idli

Tawa idli or tava idli is a delicious and quick snack – a medley of leftover Idli batter, some Karampodi and onion, tomato, and capcicum. It takes all of 15 mins to make and tastes great as an evening snack with some tea or coffee. I also make a milder version of tawa idli for breakfast since it breaks the monotony of eating idli and chutney or idli upma, which is the usual recipe to use up leftover idli, that recipe will be uploaded soon.

INGREDIENTS :

1/2 CUP CAPCICUM (FINELY CHOPPED)
1/2 CUP TOMATOES (FINELY CHOPPED)
1/2 CUP ONIONS (FINELY CHOPPED)
1/4 CUP CHILLI (FINELY CHOPPED)
1/2 CUP CORIANDER LEAVES (FINELY CHOPPED)
1/2 CUP BUTTER
1/2 CUP KARAMPODI
IDLI BATTER

METHOD:

Heat a non stick pan. Add 2 tbsp onions.

Then add 1 tbsp capcicum.

Then add 1 tbsp tomatoes.

Then add 1 tbsp coriander leaves and 1/2 tsp chilli.

Then add 3 -4 tbsp butter.

Then add 1 tbsp karampodi.

Mix everything and let it cook for 2-3 mins.

Now divide the mixture into 2 parts and add 2 laddle of idli batter.

Sprinkle some more karampodi on top of the batter.

Cover and Let it cook for 5 mins on low flame. Check if the upper layer is cooked or not. If not then cook for another 1-2 mins.
Flip it around and cook for 1 min.

Your Tawa Idli is ready to be served. Serve hot.
